Who We Are
Many doctors recommend that we eat more whole grains, dried beans, and
fresh fruits and vegetables in order to have the high level of health Nature
intended for us. Studies have shown that whole foods contain fiber, vitamins
and minerals that help to prevent many serious diseases, like diabetes,
heart disease, and cancer. In addition, there has been much controversy
over chemicals added to our food during its growth and processing. Now,
we find yet another controversy brewing over genetic engineering. Where
can we find fresh, organic, whole foods to provide our families with the
best nutrition without breaking the
bank at the health food store?
Several families in southwest Missouri have joined together to find the
answer to this question. We buy most food, vitamins, herbs, cleaning products,
and health and beauty aids from Ozark Co-op
Warehouse in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Some of our non-food items and herbs
come from Frontier Natural
Products in Norway Iowa. We look for local sources of organic fruit,
vegetables, and meats. Some members of the co-op are knowledgeable about
nutrition, herbs, animals, or gardening. Information and advice is freely
shared among members.

How We Operate
We keep our costs down by providing the work often done by a retailer.
Each mamber has a responsibility in order to keep the co-op running smoothly:
One person collects and collates the orders before she calls in our combined
order to the warehouse. Another picks up the order from the delivery truck,
brings it home, sorts it and distributes each family’s order as they come
to pick it up. If we have a large group of people who would like to meet
and conduct an ‘auction’ style meeting, it will be someone’s job to coordinate
and host that meeting. Yet another person has the treasurer's responsibilities.
One creative person can publish a newsletter. Other jobs may be necessary
as the group grows. You may choose one of these jobs when you join.
When you register as a member of the co-op, you receive a catalog from
Ozark Cooperative Warehouse which
contains over 4,000 items. You will find am amazing variety of items in the
catalog: Food items range from staples like flour, oil, dry beans and grains,
to cheese, organic produce, convenience foods, and even frozen organically
produced meat and bread. Non-food items include health and beauty aids, herbs
and vitamins, books, and gardening supplies. Each month, Ozark publishes
the Market News which contains announcements from the warehouse, including
new products. Best of all, The Market News contains pages and
pages of special sale itmes for the month. You may even find something on
sale that you have been wanting to try.

How to Order With Us
- Email your name,
address, email, and telephone number to register as a co-op member and
receive a catalog. At this time you may choose a job in the co-op.
- Look through the catalog noting the items you would like to order.
If you would like to order part of a case of any item, please arrange with
someone else to take the remainder of the case. Contact us if you would like help
filling split cases.
- Be sure to include your name, address, phone number, and email
address with your order.
- List for each item you order:
- catalog page number (please indicate with an ‘M’ if you are ordering
from the Market News)
- quantity ordered (be specific about the type of units you are ordering)
- item number
- item description
- unit price (if you are ordering more than one case or part of a
case of a prticular item)
- total price.
- to find the cost of your order:
- Add the ‘Total Price’ column.
- Calulate 5% for Ozark surcharge and shipping (this will change
as our order grows—we may even get a discount!)
- 5% for co-op expenses if you are a non-working member.
- Add ‘Order Total’ and surcharges to get the subtotal.
- Calculate 4.225% sales tax on this subtotal.
- Add sales tax to subtotal for total cost of your order.
- This will give you an idea of how much your order will cost. Be
ready to pay for yoir order when you pick it up. The cost will be adjusted
to allow for out of stock items or price changes from Ozark.
- E-mail your order to
the person in charge of ordering. It must be received before the due date
to be assured of being included in the order this cycle.
- Come to pick up your order on the date specified. Please be prompt
in picking up your order unless prior arrangements have been made. We cannot
be responsible for unclaimed items.
- Enjoy what you ordered and the healthy effects it has on your family.
